Deskripsi :

Secara Etimologi genus ini berasal dari Bahasa Yunani yaitu Osteon = Tulang dan Cheilos  = bibir. Spesies ini memiliki ciri fisik memiliki bentuk streamline seperti torpedo. Tubuh memiliki warna dasar perak dan bagian atas berwarna kehitaman. terdapat garis tebal hitam sepanjang lateral dari Post-head hingga pertengahan sirip caudal. Sirip dorsal dan caudal berwarna kemerahan sedangkan sirip anal, ventral dan pectoral berwarna kuning pucat transparan. Pada tubuh terdapat sebaran titik titik berwarna pink.  Di berbagai daerah ditemukan variasi dari warna tubuh yaitu seperti sirip yang lebih kuning atau warna ekor yang lebih pucat hal ini diduga dipengaruhi oleh makanan. Spesies ini memiliki kemampuan untuk memekarkan mulutnya Karena memiliki struktur bibir yang keras sehingga memudahkan untuk memakan makanan yang ukurannya cukup besar 

Terdapat satu atau tiga tubus keras pada moncong, Garis warna hitam jelas sepanjang badan dari celah insang sampai akhir jari - jari tengah sirip ekor, badan berwarna terang ; bagian tengah ke bawah hampir berwarna putih. 12 - 13 1/2 jari jari bercabang pada sirip punggung; batang ekor dikelilingi 16 sisik (Kottelat , 1993)

Habitat:

Barb satu ini merupakan spesies ikan air tawar yang memiliki habitat di air jernih (Clearwater) dengan subhabitat sungai besar berarus dengan substrat batu, dan kerikil. Biasanya spesies ini lebih menyukai bermain di kolom air. Spesies ini hidup di kolom sungai dan cenderung Pelagic.

Distribusi :

China, Chao Phraya, Malay peninsula, Sumatera dan Borneo

Makanan :

Spesies ini merupakan omnivora pemakan algae , lumut dan hewan kecil.

Tingkah Laku:

Ikan ini hidup di kolom perairan. Kemampuannya memekarkan mulutnya memudahkan spesies ini menangkap mangsa berukuran cukup besar dan mencari makan di sela sela batu.

Description :

Etymology of this genus comes from the Greek language osteon = bone and Cheilos = lips. This species has the morphology characteristics streamlined body shape like a torpedo. The body has a silver base color and blackish at the up. There is thick black line along the lateral, starts from Post-head until the middle of the caudal fin. Dorsal and caudal fins are reddish, while the anal fin, ventral and pectoral pale yellow transparent. There is a random spread of pink dots in lateral.  The body was found variations of color that is like a more yellow fin or tail paler color it is assumed influenced by food. This species has the ability to elongated the lip. Because  the lips  has a hard structure, making it easier to eat the foods that are large enough.

One or three tubercle on snout, well - defined black stripe along body from gill opening to end of median caudal rays, body light coloured , lower half almost white; 12 - 13 1/2 branched dorsal rays; 16 circumpendicular scale rows (Kottelat, 1993)

This Barb is a freshwater fish species that inhabit the clearwater with a large fast-flowing river subhabitat with the substrate rocks, and gravel. This species usually prefers to play in the water column. These species live in rivers and tend Pelagic fish.
